Starting Over in Wyoming - Book 1

Riding Alone

Tragic events force Hollywood screenwriter Griff Richardson to drive away to the birthplace of his grandfather, Laramie, Wyoming. Hoping to find a temporary hiding shelter from the journalists and reporters that are hounding him, Griff becomes every day more attached to this new place. The beauty of the wide open spaces, natural and untouched by humans, the friendliness of the neighbors and of his newly-found relatives, the pleasant morning rides in the company of his horse Bucky, all make him realize that there is a different way of life than his glamorous previous one in the movie world, a simpler, more convenient and suitable to him, way of life.

Norah Fuller moves with her uncle John Parker at his ranch to take care of him. Her uncle has been her rock ever since she was twelve and alone in the world. He has always cared and helped her the best he could. Now it is her turn to make sure he is not alone in his old age.

Their quiet life changes when Norah falls in love with a mysterious stranger, a man way out of her league, who is here only temporary and who will return soon to his life in Hollywood. Add to this the drama in Griff’s own life and the killer who follows him here and life gets even more complicated.

Old West Wyoming - Book 3

The Last Stagecoach

Laramie, Wyoming Territory, Summer of 1888

The stagecoach line from Laramie to Centennial is going to be closed, anticipating the building by Union Pacific of a railroad branch to this small town in the Medicine Bow Mountains. The last stagecoach is attacked by robbers. Deputy Sheriff Orville Maitland riding shotgun, jumps down and holds the attackers, while the stagecoach turns back to Laramie.

Sheriff Bill Monroe is bound to see this last stagecoach get to the mining town of Centennial and he wants to search for his deputy. Being aware of the risk to be attacked again, the passengers are determined to travel again. The sheriff has in his charge a variety of characters, a banker carrying the miners’ payroll, a pastor, a gambler very fast with a gun, a flamboyant singer, with secrets of her own.

Add to this the mail-order-bride of the deputy, freshly arrived from Baltimore, who has no idea what dangers are in the west, but insists stubbornly to go and rescue her future groom, that she’d never seen in her life.
What the sheriff hopes to be a short thirty-five mile drive turns into a longer adventure for all of them.

Historical Note – Medicine Bow Mountains were the only local source of timber for the Union Pacific railroad while it advanced west through south Wyoming. The company promised to build a branch to Centennial, since 1868 when the railroad had reached Laramie. It didn’t happen until 1907. Until then, the stagecoach line was bought and operated by Augustus Trabing, a businessman from Laramie, who owned three stagecoach lines, to Centennial, Syblee, and Walden, Colorado. He also owned a large ranch, twenty miles north of Laramie, and a retail and wholesale store Trabing Commercial Company at the corner of Garfield and Second South Street in Laramie.

This is a contemporary novel set in a small town, a funny, heart-warming story. The small town comes alive in this amusing tale of small scale conflict.

Charlie Callahan is a retired baseball player living in Hunters Crossing, Ohio with his wife, Lorena and two boys, Rob, a college student, and Drew, a senior in high school. Charlie, a coach for the local high school football team, is quite happy with his life until things start to change; an old girlfriend comes to town, the adult daughter he’d never met wants to get to know him, and a silly argument with the Mayor’s wife after a football game turns into a more serious power play.

When what he thought to be only a minor incident threatens to turn his life upside down, Charlie is forced to change his passive attitude. When the small town is taken by storm, sides are taken. Some people who knew him for years desert him, while new friends come to support him.

In the end, as Shakespeare said, ’All’s well that ends well’.
